When first beginning on your spiritual awakening journey, it is pretty common to feel lost and in a confusing place. Everything will feel brand new because your mind has now awakened to a new world view and way of being. You may struggle to figure out where you belong as you take on this new journey. Below are a few steps to help you make a bit of sense at this time or newness.
When you start experiencing a spiritual awakening, there will be a shift in your core beliefs that can leave you disoriented. The process of rebuilding the spiritual belief system can take months or years as it is ongoing. It takes time to form a new core set of foundational principles for your life. Even though the process is gradual, it is still important to periodically evaluate how your new principles are evolving as you continue to grow and develop. Ask yourself a few times a year “What do I hold to be true?” This will allow you to be clear on where you stand and rebuild your faith.
Being open-minded spiritually allows you the freedom to explore many faiths and traditions. This exploration helps you gain clarity on your own evolving beliefs and aids in growth and development. This is the ideal time to lean into religious and spiritual practices that you have been curious about, even if you ultimately choose none and remain a free agent. Learning about other religions and traditions can help you gain clarity and wisdom.
Educating yourself is another way to understand what practices and belief systems truly resonate within you. On the spiritual awakening journey, it can be a benefit to gain as much in-depth spiritual information and knowledge as possible. This can be started by studying several religions, philosophies, and reading spiritual books that are of interest. Studying spiritual texts aids in spiritual and personal development.
Along the journey, you will gather information about sacred customs, rituals, and traditions. It is important to put this learning into practice to hone your own spiritual development. This allows you to establish a deeper connection to your higher self and figure out what works in your life. Common spiritual practices may include yoga, prayer, reading sacred texts, and meditation. Tailor a spiritual practice that meets your needs and desires because there is no right or wrong way to accomplish this.
We do not take this journey in isolation, but in a community. Finding that community is a way to connect with those on the same path so we can share experiences and learn from one another. There are several ways to connect, Facebook groups, local organizations, or even a spiritual healing center.
Being newly awakened can leave you confused and uncertain. It is difficult to know just where to begin. Hopefully, these simple steps will get you started.
